Thanks for your reply Thomas. Actually you told Bob I was wrong and he told me. Regardless I do enjoy your commentary and the next five days are going to be interesting. When do you think we will know who our next president is going to be?

I don't when we will know. I suspect we will have a good idea by the end of next week and maybe sooner.

Thomas I wrote the same thing here two months ago about Biden's cognitive decline and his inner circle attempting to conceal it from the public. You said I was wrong and one of your readers called me a troll. Tough crowd! And if it weren't for Joe Manchin the next president might be inheriting 20% inflation.

Interesting point Phil, but why has the GOP failed to dump the TRUMP?

Trump's addresses, known for their rambling, repetitive, and meandering nature, often include peculiar asides, such as comments about his "beautiful" body and hair. Notably, he now curses more in his speeches than he did in previous speeches and sings the lyrics to YMCA while leading his followers with that unique arm action. This increase could indicate “disinhibition,” a form of impulsivity that is sometimes associated with cognitive decline in old age. Trump will not release his medical records as others have, so we can only assume Old Don, has gone over the edge. The GOP should have pulled him off the ticket years ago. You are joking about Joe Manchin, right ? You need to do a little research into what Joe got out of that move.

Hey, Phil. I don't remember telling you that you were wrong, but I don't think the Biden folks were hiding his decline from the public. That's a longer discussion. After the debate in June, I thought he needed to get out of the race and said so, though before that, I thought he deserved a second term. That said, the fed tamed inflation and did it faster than any developed nation. I'm glad Manchin forced a compromise and got the Inflation Reduction Act passed. That's how politics is supposed to work, but Biden gets most of the credit for it. The fact remains that the economy is stronger than it's been in decades and the Biden passed more bipartisan legislation than any president in 20 years.

Love your posts and updates on NC. Any thoughts about the Charlotte rally Saturday night and the “ special guests “ teased.

As to you point regarding the economy , Harris ( rightly or wrongly ) believed she had to look forward and not get stuck defending an economy that has worked especially well for wealthier people , but not so much for middle class down. So , she focused on how to make things better and addressing people’s economic anxieties. The campaign had a strategy and is sticking with it .

I think under the circumstances she has done an amazing job !

Its failure to spend money telling voters how well they were addressing America’s and Americans’ needs is a feature of Joe Biden’s approach to campaigning. That’s not a compliment. Events need to be reinforced with paid media if they are going to leave the positive impression they’re intended to deliver. But the worst malpractice by the Democratic Party was in the second half of his administration, when they apparently did little or nothing to recognize Biden’s decline as a fatal weakness to bring into the 2024 election. We need our Democratic Party to be a party of the people, and singularly motivated to win elections and not routinely defer to incumbents.

It seems inconsistent for Trump supporters not to acknowledge a similar decline in their orange Jesus. There is real-time evidence their candidate occasionally forgets who he is opposing(thinks he is running against Obama) and references WWII as if it were currently going on. This might suggest cognitive difficulties. But the real topper came when he missed the door handle on the garbage truck. His hand was shaking so badly he could not grasp a simple door handle. Members of his security team had to help up the steps to the truck. But once in, he looked good in his little traffic vest.

That's hopeful news for Democrats on early turnout in NC. But I am not sure this election would have turned out better for Democrats if a) Biden withdrew earlier, say in 2023; b) he took more credit for his successes. There were plenty of such promotional events, but they didn't break through to voters; c) if Biden withdrew and there was a fight for the nomination to succeed him; d) Harris emerged as the nominee, but with voter doubts raised by her primary opponents, and Democratic divisions accentuated.

e) I suppose there's a possibility Harris would not have faced primary opposiition, and could have used more time to define herself and take credit for the successes of the Biden-Harris administration.

The bottom line was that since 2021 voters experienced the shock of once-in-a-generation inflation, the worst since the early 1980s. Granted, it was due largely to the pandemic and broken supply chains, and has finally, largely been brought under control. But that wasn't clear until the very recent August and September economic numbers came out, and the confirmation that a "soft landing" has been achieved. Hopefully, enough swing voters now get it to reward Harris.

Without the pandemic, Trump might well have won re-election in 2020. because the economy was good. Swing voters don't pay much attention to corruption charges and scandals, dismissing them as partisan framing. In 1972, they re-elected Nixon by a landslide despite the Watergate break-in. and corruption charges. Reagan and Clinton remained popular despite numerous scandals because the economy was good during their terms.

I disagree with one of your points. Point 3 that you made is not accurate about Biden being too old. If that is true, then trump is too old. I don’t see anyone touting that point from the corporate media. They just keep normalizing trump’s imbecilic remarks. The corruption of the corporate media is a reason that Americans forget just how bad things under trump were. I certainly did not forget. The one and only time I was ever laid off from a company happened under trump. The company I was let go from made record profits during that time. My performance was very very good and it was a shock that so many people were let go. I will never forget what happened to me. I will never forget the way trump has normalized racism and bigotry. I will always call him the king of fools.

Most folks are numerically illiterate and unfortunately in both parties so it will always be a challenge to explain economics or anything that involves quantitative analysis.

very cogent and well written, as always. I might add that the Biden administration was a little late and a little weak on addressing some of the things that were somewhat controllable, namely the impact of corporate price gouging. The high cost of living is the absolute driver of low-information voters and if Trump wins, that will be the major reason. These voters assumed that the headlines of "inflation being under control" meant prices will go back to where they were, we know that's not close to being true.

Bad COVID memories Thomas. Trump voters hated regulations . That plus his inflation podded them off. Turnout is the key
