Oh, I hope not! Mark Robinson is a perfect ReThugnican: bigoted; racist; misogynistic; untruthful; immoral; unethical; and willing to say or do anything for a vote. Let him go down the drain with Drumph and Shillbilly Vanilli.

Please don’t lower yourself to Trump’s level by making up silly names with which to refer to others.

David, give it a rest. I hardly need your permission or your approval.

Republican powers that be in NC revealed their tin ears and contempt for Black voters by assuming "they" would go for a manifestly unqualified candidate for governor who routinely makes hateful and incendiary statements. Black voters would support Robinson just because he's Black, even though Robinson says what White supremacists want to hear, such as "I'm ashamed of my race."

I actually don't know how Robinson managed to win the primary as I'm not a Republican, but it should horrify those who are. He is utterly unqualified and dangerous, just like Trump.

He has already blown off both of his feet.

Interesting article but I had to read nearly to the end to figure out what state this is. Most of us aren’t familiar with candidates in other states.

The title of the blog (:PoliticsNC) might have been a clue.

I've been saying for as long as anybody would listen that Robinson is simply an awful general election candidate in NC (for all the reasons you make quite clear). What's amazing to me is that Republican legislators could be so delusional on this. I normally expect elected politicians to be more savvy than this, but, I suppose if you are getting elected from a deep red state legislative district, you can succeed without actually understanding politics.

I'm in Mecklenburg County and there is a huge push with Democrats to get out the vote (GOTV) here - there have been weekly canvass events for Nichole Sidman (HD-105) since Feb. and for Woodson Bradley (SD-42) since May (or June) in my area. (There are also canvasses and phone banks for Beth Helfrich who is running in Davidson in HD-98).

I have written 2 sets of postcards for Nicole and have been phone banking for Woodson. I've also been writing postcards for Josh Stein and Mo Green plus writing Postcards to Swing States for NC through Progressive Turnout PAC. The latter has recruited volunteers to write 36M postcards across 11 swing states and a bunch of swing districts where Dems are trying to fip a house seat.

If anyone is near Mecklenburg County and wants to write postcards, we have 9 postcard pickup hubs across the county plus Waxhaw and Weddington (Union Co.) and Albemarle (Stanley County). If you would like more info, please DM me and let me know where you are and I can put you in touch with the closest pick up point. Volunteers provide the postage and all postcards campaigns have mail dates between Oct 1 and Oct 15 (hold completed postcards until then). A lot of people are holding Postcard writing parties for their friends, which is a great way to know out a bunch of postcards AND have fun!

If you are interested in getting involved with phonebanking or canvassing, please consider signing up for one or more of these upcoming events: https://www.mobilize.us/?org_ids=1545&org_ids=37956&org_ids=38103&org_ids=37954

If you are somewhere else in NC, you can create your own custom search in Mobilize (www.mobilize.us) by choosing Filter icon and then selecting candidates and/or organizations in the "Campaign or Organization" drop-down box). You can also filter by type of activity (e.g., phone bank or canvass).

I’m out west in Transylvania County. Our Democratic Party is working incredibly hard. Mo Green was here recently, and we had Natasha Marcus speaking at a Democratic Women’s luncheon back in May and a huge event called WestFest with Anderson Clayton and many statewide candidates! Plus phone banking, canvassing and postcards. We’re working hard for Mark Burrows (NC House 119) and Adam Tebrugge (NC Senate 50). It’s all hands on deck!

Thank you for working to mobilize Mecklenburg County. The Democrats need to get out and vote. 5 of the Democratic Council of State are from Mecklenburg. There are 10 candidates running for NC House, and you mentioned the ones in your area. Wake County has two - Evinne Hopkins and Safiyah Jackson, as well as 2 Senate seats - Lisa Grafsiein and Terence Everitt. Not to mention the 4 statewide justices.

Meanwhile, speaking about the Council of State races, WRAL has a lengthy story on former Auditor Beth Wood's endorsement of UNC Chapel Hill Trustee Dave Bolick (who used to be the UNC-CH Trustee chair) for Auditor Wood gave Gov Roy Cooper several recommendations to succeed her. He chose someone else. Sounds like a column idea Thomas. Yes, go tie all of the GOP Council of State candidates to Robinson, especially Michelle Morrow running for Superintendent of Public Instruction.

This is really bad for Jessica Holmes. I got a call from a friend today asking what that's all about. I reassured her that she should ignore what Beth Wood is doing. And she said it's not about revenge. Such nonsense. Of course it is. So, yes Thomas, this would be a good topic.

Ruth, Beth Wood is a traditional conservative Southern democrat. I think she's miffed that Gov Cooper didn't appoint one of the persons she recommended. At least Wood was mature enough to admit she was at fault (and apparently drunk) for the accident that ended her career.

I HAVE SERVED ON A BOARD WHERE HE WAS THE DIRECTOR. HE WILL MAKE A TERRIFIC LEADER FOR OUR SCH OOLS IN NORTH CA ROLINA.

Let the Rs keep throwing money down the drain! Maybe Robinson will take the rest of the Rs with him in our grossly extreme gerrymandered election. Kamala & Tim need a D strong majority in both chambers of Congress to get work done.

Can we begin a wispering campaign that internal Harris polling on Robinson has the Dems worried he's connecting with the voters they were counting on to win the state?

Expand full comment

That's silly and unserious. The NCGOP is worried that the enthusiasm gap will led to the flip of of the houses of the NC General Assembly. I'm hoping it happens and force the GOP to moderate their stance on statewide issues.
