I recall a line from Clancy’s "In Search of Red October": “I am a politician which means I am a liar and a crook. When I am not kissing babies, I am stealing their lollipops.” This perfectly encapsulates Thom Tillis. His initial opposition to Pete Hegseth's nomination as Secretary of Defense, citing Hegseth's lack of qualifications and allegations of misconduct, was merely a facade to project integrity. Tillis caved, fearing backlash from the MAGA faction. His lack of moral fiber led him to betray Hegseth’s sister-in-law, exposing her to attacks. Tillis is a moral coward who cannot be trusted and will be manipulated by Trump and his cronies. This guy North Carolina represents this state in Congress. Tillis is what this state does not need, representing our interests, especially, with this herculean task of rebuilding the western part of this state following a major storm. He cannot be trusted to put NC first, before his fear of being primaried by Trump and his marry little band
We need a person in that office who stands up for NC.
Senators Tillis and Budd, nor my Rep in the House, Virginia Foxx, represent me or my beliefs & values. The extreme germandering in North Carolina is the reason they were elected after election map districts were gerrymandered and made no sense, except for the Rs to choose their voters rather than the other way around. I am ashamed of my US Congressional representatives. I wrote Tillis & Budd several times about some of the worst Cabinet nominees & received form letters back. I won't trust a word they say as they do not put our country or Constitution over their political ambitions. 😡😡😡
The actions of these representatives are raising ethical concerns. Proposals to amend the 14th Amendment through non-constitutional methods and attacks on General Mark Milley's reputation highlight the need to uphold democratic principles and respect for those who safeguard our nation. As midterm elections are near, it is crucial to recognize that harmful actions often lead to consequences. Trump and his associates may face legal repercussions.
2 years is a long way away & I hate to think of all the irreparable damage that can occur before then. And, we've seen just how much difference "legal repercussions " make for POTUS. Plus, we can no longer trust that the judiciary will honor their responsibilities, especially the SCOTUS. The Rs in Congress need to fulfill their responsibilities & save our country. For that to be accomplished, every constituent needs to contact their local, state & US Congressional Representative s & Senators, as re-election is what their priority is for most of them.
Donna, what else can we do? We are the adults in the room. Resorting to violence is Trump's domain, along with his band of misfits. I must disagree with your view on the court system. The lower courts have been quite responsive to litigation against Trump's antics, adhering to the law. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court is the exception, with many Republican appointees leaning towards political solutions rather than constitutional ones.
I agree with you. I'm just so frustrated, angry & upset. I don't condone violence. I shouldn't have generalized about the judicial system like I did. The R partisan SCOTUS Justices, and judges like Aileen Cannon & the TX judges that attorneys judge-shop for are the ones I was referring to, and the one who is trying to take away NC Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs' re-election she won by trying to have 60,000 votes taken away from her even though 3 recounts demonstratedthat she won fairly.
The Justice Department made several errors in handling post-election actions. Filing the classified documents case in Florida, rather than DC where the crime occurred, was the first mistake. While hindsight is always 20/20, it is crucial not to repeat the same mistakes.
As Tom pointed out, playing fair with these individuals is counterproductive. When the midterms bring a new face to the legislature, act swiftly. Impeach, impeach, and impeach, followed by convictions in the Senate.
Taking down these demagogues one by one is the only language they seem to understand. Trump sent a clear message that violence in his name is acceptable; we will send a clear message that criminal behavior has consequences in the civilized world.
