Tom Tillis often references the famous line from Forrest Gump, "My mama always said, 'Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you gonna get.'"

It is a timeless reminder of life's unpredictability. Sadly, Tom missed the opportunity to make the right choice—he picked the wrong chocolate. For a politician, foresight is crucial. Tom, for reasons not too hard to guess, made a poor decision. He assumes North Carolina will automatically reelect him because it is traditionally a red state. Yet, Democrats have seen success in statewide elections.

This suggests that a small percentage of thoughtful Republicans might realize Tom is not serving their interests and decide to vote Democrat. Unlike Tom, Democrats do not aim to induce mass layoffs, dismantle Social Security/Medicare, compromise air travel safety, or deprive needy children of free or reduced-price school meals.

Tom, it is time to dust off your consultant hat and see if anybody has any respect for your ability to predict the future. Democrats have faults, but they do not include the ability destroy lives, and render hope useless for all just to afford tax cuts for the fat cats.
