Great analysis of the issues during Trump's time. However, I am curious about your thoughts on how we reached this point. What aspects of our society provided Trump with the support to deceive the country? Some political observers have pointed to Christian nationalism as a key factor. It gave Trump undeserved momentum. Despite being impeached twice and a convicted felon, he won because of their backing. They elected a man who cannot own or possess a handgun, bonding companies will not touch and would not meet the background qualifications required of his own security team. I don't believe these voters intended to harm the country, but by electing a president who hasn't even been in office for a full hundred days, they've managed to upset the stock market with ridiculous tariffs on our trading partners and allies, dismantle Medicaid, and now he's targeting Social Security and Medicare. Experiencing negative consequences because of these decisions may be the only way these voters will learn.
We’ve already arrived at a point where Trump’s “disappearing” people who stand up to him. And it’s working. Not just members of Congress, but university presidents, corporate executives, medals outlets… they’re all getting quiet because they don’t want to lose what they have. Same for the people who aren’t quite rich enough to be able to ride any storm out, but not quite at the point where they have nothing left to lose.
Fat Donnie and his daddy Elon are going to soon learn that fucking over 300 million heavily armed people with nothing left to lose is not a great retirement plan. Because when it gets to the point where people have that world view — and it appears that this is inevitable — things will get truly ugly. When Russel Vought said this could be a bloodless coup, he only meant that he wouldn’t be the one bleeding. The rest of us are bleeding plenty, even if (so far) that’s not literal for most of us. And I would not like to be him when the scales fall from the eyes of the MAGA Faithful and they realize they’ve been had.
I just called Mark Harris for the 2nd time today. The first time was before office hours and I left a message I just talked to an intern and told him that I , and many many people I know, are angry and worried that the money we paid to protect ourselves will not be there and the CR vote tonight must not pass. But it’s fine. The intern “will see that Congressman Harris will get the message.”
Thank you for keeping us informed and encouraged.

Outstaning! Smooth as Tupelo Honey. Thomas, you are hitting all the right notes, keeping us fired up. Keep it up!
I stopped watching MSNBC. I quit the Atlantic. I'm tired and pissed, but I'm listening to you and haven't given up the fight!
Thanks, friend. You're a lantern in the dark.
