The more I think about this ban the angrier I get. And the more I am convinced it's something Dems should use as a wedge issue against the Rs.

Have these republicans accomplished anything worthwhile in the past eight years? It seems like all they care about is crazy right wing, anti liberal signaling to their base. I had a list of things from green M&M's to now DEI that keeps them energized. I didn't see the anti mask issue coming. Hopefully, we will be able to defeat the MAGA's running to lead the state otherwise the anti maskers will look quaint.

I know. Had no idea legislators had such as anti-masking as a thing to try and go after to outlaw. And have gone this far.

Disgusting.... Blatant denial of biological realities. And we should trust such mindsets to guide our state???? NO!

Is this bill a set-up just so the governor will veto it; to create yet another false issue to moptivate their base against Dems?

The NC legislature has a veto-proof supermajority so the dovernor may NOT be able maintain a veto iif the GOP is in lockstep!

Good point. The GOPs tactic could still be to use Cooper's veto - even if overridden - against Dems.

This anti mask law is yet another example of republican incompetence. Whether a state legislature has the authority to enact a law that endangers the health and welfare of all its citizens is questionable. Furthermore, the issue of interstate travel and commerce arises. Suppose an interstate bus, carrying passengers destined for New Orleans and wearing masks for disease prevention, travels through our state. Is it the duty of a local police officer to halt the bus and issue citations to every mask-wearing passenger? This not only infringes on a fundamental privacy right, but it also hinders the free flow of commerce across state boundaries. It’s akin to halting all commercial activities on Sunday, as the Old Testaments stipulates that no work should be done on the Sabbath. Although, It is evident that Jesus did not think like a Republican as his teaching indicate that human needs come before keeping the Sabbath.

I've never seen my hair stylist face. Wonder how she is going to react to this. I also think she is a fan of firearms. The mask wearing and firearms affirming community may overlap more than the current legislature thinks.

I am a senior with pre-existing conditions that would make a bout of Covid more dangerous to me, so I masked religiously long after mask mandates expired. I am vaccinated although my last booster was 8 months ago and likely protectant against a varient that is no longer circulating. I continue to mask in public mostly to avoid getting sick with less serious viruses. (I just finished up with a program that tutors elementary school students in Math. We all know what breeding grounds elementary schools are!) But also in solidarity with several friends who are immune compromised or with conditions like rheumatoid arthritis which neccessitate immune suppressing drugs. Covid would be a death sentence for one elderly friend who almost didn't survive her last bout of pneumonia. (She is one of the reasons I continue to mask).

This law is going to be very troublesome for the people who continue to mask for their own health or the protection of loved ones. Many people who continue to mask get pushback already from their employers. What kind of impact will this have on their ability to earn a living? I'm hoping the disability rights community will fill suit under ADA guidelines to require an exception for health.

FYI, this was a topic in the comments in Jessica Craven's substack yesterday and one of the commentors mentioned a tool that made it easy to send emails to the entire NC legislature. Check it out and consider sending an email objecting to this heavy handed bill:

Weird reading this today. Because just yesterday on my couple of errands, requiring finding parking places and going into a market and after that two stores, I noted masks here or there in three different parking lots. Of course these masks--simply detritus we see post COVID. Trash left behind. Still the sight of at least several facial coverings ground into asphalt pavement registered. I keep masks with me--no big deal. And use if necessary. At the nail spa I go to--a small establishment--quite clean and without chemical stench that most nail places have--the nail technicians who work here always wear a clean mask and proper gloves. I would also in their position. And at the last quite clinical massage I received, the massage therapist wore a mask while she worked. I'm hoping this latest GOP attempt to prevent mask wearing is just as you say--virtue signaling and a chance to show out in another symbolic way the GOP disdain for truths about the last pandemic. Not that it will be our "last." It's the same mindset of MAGA hooligans who spend time and money to go to pathetic rallies or gather at busy intersections and wave around the stupidity that goes with such behavior. Only in this case, these are legislators--people who make laws. Heaven forbid this most recent legislative stunt gains traction. Sure would make enforcement a mess. I'd hate to see some of our most vulnerable citizens be caught wearing a mask and get trapped in the legal system and end up with a criminal record. Versions of stupidity such as the take the absurd and square it.
