Thomas, as right as you are about people paying little attention to the campaigns over the summer, it will be a big mistake (again) if our candidates don’t pay attention to the voters over the summer.

It’s not like the old days when summer was peoples’ downtime. Many schools are now year round and I needn’t point out the economics of vacations these days.

Now’s the time for our candidates to reach out and have a conversation with voters — before campaigns heat up and voters stop paying any attention to anything that sounds political.

As Mills mentions and continues to inform, NC does have some sterling candidates. And as Mills notes, judicial ones, more significant for voters than many may realize. I hope as you say candidates will continue to “reach out”—-and break from traditional means in so doing.

You should watch Josh Stein's ad. He doesn't speak, there's no narrator, only despicable Robinson and his unbelievable comments on abortion. It's powerful.

Ruth,

have you seen this website? https://www.realmarkrobinson.com/

It is like a longer format version of the Stein ad.

I also recommend the Carolina Forward ad on abortion rights:

Best to A. Jones and “New Branchhead.” Enjoy well deserved time away from the fray. NC mountains always provide comforting changes of scene. Taking time to take time—be at ease.

I hope you are right, Thomas, but I was shocked to see the Cook Political Report classify the NC governor's race as a "toss-up." My initial prognostication was that Stein would win easily with 53% or more of the vote, which would give Biden-Harris reverse coattails and a chance to eek through with a plurality over Trump. I now worry that's too optimistic, and that nothing will pry NC voters away from Trump, that he'll win NC, Robinson and the entire egregious GOP ticket will slither into office on his coattails. There is the first Trump-Biden debate in June. Most won't watch, but they will watch the sound bites, so spinmeisters will have a field day.

It would be nice if more of the messaging involved how and why it matters that Joe has been in the system so long. He knows many of his colleagues. From various ideological strands.

And he also knows how to get things passed into legislation. This matters.
