More than just the presidency is on the 2024 ballot in this country. What is truly at stake is our democracy. Trump has devised another scheme offering unlimited opportunities for profit. Democracy stands in the way of executing his plan. He knows, as president he can suppress any attempt to stop him. Moreover, he has appointed judges, who will rule in his favor. I am certain Lincoln was correct in saying you can not fool all the people. Trump is about to experience a rude awaking come wed morning. Voting is the only tool provide by our founders to shut him down.
Fingers crossed. According to NC Newsline story 4.2 million or 54 percent of NC's 7.8 million voters voted in person early. When mail in ballots already received are counted as well that total goes up to 57 percent. How many will be waiting in line when polls open tomorrow morning? That will give us the final clue. On Election Day 2020 I was a judge in Durham County precinct 53-1 and only 400 persons voted all day. What happens tomorrow determines the outcome.
Based on your stats, there appears to be a drop in early voting. Light early voting can sometimes indicate a closer, more competitive election. When voters are unsure of their choices or when the race is tight, they may wait until closer to Election Day to cast their ballots to gather more information or see how the race develops. This can lead to a higher turnout on Election Day itself, potentially influencing the outcome. Something attracted my attention during a random interview with a lady. She said something that seemed perplexing “ I wished the candidates for president would stop finding fault with each other and start talking about what they will do for us.” Thinking back to John F. Kennedy’s famous statement,” ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your county.”
By asking citizens to think about what they can do for their country, Kennedy was also empowering them to take agency in shaping their nation's future. It was a call for initiative-taking engagement, encouraging individuals to take ownership of their role in society and to recognize that they have the power to effect change. This message was particularly resonant during a time when the United States was facing significant social and political challenges.
We are currently facing such social and political challenges. Whether we want this country to be run by an individual who inspires violence, hate and division or a person who promises an equal seat at the negating table for opposing opinions. Why this message failed to resonate with that lady remains a mystery. I believe Harris has made her objectives clear. They certainly do not involve sending armed thugs done to the capital to injure and kill cops to win an election. Nor do they involve allowing these thugs to hang her vice president who had the guts to stand up to an illegal act. She has never told folks to fight like hell if you want to save this country. His country may have been founded on the blood of those who kicked the British out, but it was conceived in the minds of folks who understood what oppression and violence can lead. By folks who wanted all to have a seat at the table. NC can play an important part of saving our Democracy. Hopefully, we will stand up to oppression and thuggery by voting for Harris.
My gut is that Harris holds onto the blue wall but North Carolina follows it's typical path. I just don't think the urban/suburban areas are large and blue enough to overcome the exurban/rural vote quite yet. While turnout helped Obama back in '08 many of the red counties weren't as deep red back then which helped tip the scale. In fact he came close to winning a few of them that year. I'd love to be wrong though.
I’m a 73-year-old white woman and furious that men who talk about freedom all the time think government should force women to keep unwanted pregnancies. Who are they to own the most intimate and important aspect of our lives? This is not just about reproductive rights; it’s about whether women are full human beings in the eyes of men and the state. Trump is a despicable, weak, hate-filled, egomaniacal, degenerate traitor (ask me what I really think) and it’s a blight on the nation that his lies have gotten him this far. I’m praying that women will save the country.
I agree, but I've learned over the past year that Dobbs is about a lot more than unwanted pregnancies. Also, many men need to learn that they aren't God's gift to the world and women are just as good, if not better, than they are!
Analysis | The election is uncertain, but it might not be close
Close polls don’t tell the whole story. It’s not unlikely that if we see a typically sized polling error, one candidate — Donald Trump or Kamala Harris — could run away with the election.
Older women such as myself are angry about Dobbs. We fought for our rights in the 70s and now see our daughters and granddaughters have less rights. Whether you are a democrat or republican women all over are suffering since Dobbs. We are all voting for Kamala Harris.

The party that preaches family values while enabling abuse, spreading lies, and betraying the innocent in pursuit of power.

I remain bullish on Harris and predict a five point win. Never bet against genuine Americans.
Chew on this from The Washington Post:
