There will be pitchforks in the streets and up the behinds of Republicans if one Social Security check is missed.

This is the most popular federal program and arguably the best government program in the Western World. It also represents nothing short of sacred money and a financial and social contract between the governors and the governed. Every worker pays into this program. For some two-bit a-holes to come near it should be a criminal offense, and it would be in any other normal administration.

Democrats lack the votes in Congress. But Democrats need to adopt a Mitch McConnell tenacity against their opponents on the other side of the aisle.

All those Republicans in silence are going to get theirs, either at the polls or in history, or both. None of us, from this backwater Virginia editor and Tar Heel native, to “Landslide Donald,” can do evil in the world and not eventually reap a whirlwind. The problem is this: Between the egregious deeds and the whirlwind, lots of good people get hurt and, in this case, our democracy dies.

Every day, every hour, Democrats need to be railing to the public what Trump and his grifters are doing to the public’s money, specifically Social Security. Trump and the GOP need to pay a devastating price for stealing our money and breaking the best federal program. It is unforgiveable, and I remain madder than hell.

Only under Donald Trump could so many fools be gathered in the same place at the same time, doing so much harm and evil in a country filled with so many gullible citizens who returned a madman to the highest office in the land. It is hard to imagine a more costly error by any other generation of Americans. And it is owned by our generation and forever will be our legacy of infamy.

The NY Times just reported that The Atlantic decided, since "nothing was classified" according to that hank of hair Gabbard, to release the entire transcript of the chat Goldberg was witness to. Sans the name of the CIA operative. Please share.

Aside from it being ipso facto classified, yeah, that bit about a CIA operative being mentioned kinda gives the game away, no? *laughs nervously*

It may be too late for Democrats to get their eye on the ball. The latest YouGov polling shows virtually everybody in Washington underwater in net favorables, but the runaway last place finishers — fully 20 points behind — are Chuck Schumer at -33 and the Democratic Party in general at -35. Thirty. Five. By contrast, Fat Donny Two-Times is at -5. For the record, top of the heap at +7 is Bernie Sanders. One of two entities in the survey in the plus column, and one of only 3 who are even or better.

But I have to agree with Thomas’ thesis here; I don’t think the party that seems to spend most of its time telling everyone how awful the Other Party is will be helped by yet another opportunity (that they will chase like a Jack Russell Terrier after a ball) to talk about how awful the Other Party is. They’d be better served to give people a reason to vote FOR them — besides the fact that they’re Not the Other Guys.

For those of you who still read the Washington Post, there’s an article about Democratic Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet from Saginaw, MI, in a once bright blue, but now dead center district that Trump won by a couple of points — and she won by 7. How? By “talking about real stuff” — how the beet farmers in her district were going to be affected by agricultural tariffs and how Medicaid cuts were going to close down their hospital. And — and this is the important part — what she could do about it given the chance.

The most egregious aspect of Schumer’s cave in to Trump on the CR wasn’t the capitulation of the battle before it ever started. It was the gut punch people felt when they realized that nobody — NOBODY — was going to help them. Nobody in Congress at least. And this is why Schumer and Democrats more broadly are at the top of everyone’s shit list at present. And if they want to dig out of that mountain of shit, it’s going to have to be with a better shovel than “B-b-b-b-ut Trump!”

And the Progressive Caucus Democrats? Seems like they're hated by a lot of Republicans, but--perhaps ironically--their populism appeals to a lot of people who voted for Trump, and I've seen this bear out in discussions I've had with known Trump supporters. Seems to me that the 'establishment' Democrats in the House and Senate are as strongly opposed to them as the MAGA politicians, but they're having a moment.

This explains how Bernie Sanders is the one with the highest favorables — and one of a fraction not in negative territory. AOC is still underwater in this poll, but only at -3. Or, just narrowly in front of Fat Donny. (But miles ahead of Cuck Schumer.)

Establishment Dems have been tempting fate for years. They mouth the right words, but there’s rarely anything behind them. The thing that got them over the top in 2018 and 2020 was that even they were a better choice than the shit show we’d just been through. I’d say Biden was an exception, except with the things coming out since he left office, who knows how much of what happened was actually him, and how much just had his signature on it?

The strategy of waiting for Fat Donny to sit on his balls won’t work. He’s done that over, and over, and over (and over) and still has about a third of the country hanging on his every word (which is as sad as statement on the American experiment as I can contemplate). He hasn’t (yet) ACTUALLY shot anyone in the middle of 5th Ave, but he might as well have. And right now he’s daring anyone to challenge him — and nobody’s answering the bell. The longer this goes on, the more it gets normalized. And the people saying “Schumer ultimately did the right thing” fail to realize that in ANY other reality, that might be true — but we’re living THIS reality, and the rules that used to apply have been heaved cheerfully over the side. And the Establishment Dems are completely unprepared for the knife fight they currently find themselves in.

The government should be run like a business, they said. So they set about running the government like a business. But pretty soon, the government began coming apart like … like … I dunno, like panels flying off a Cybertruck put together with Sorry-Glue.

Anything that shines a light on the idiocy of this cruel t-rump administration is good. Milk the incompetency of the group chat outside national security protocols! Anything that gets a little bit of attention on this crazy administration for his base to notice--some may actually believe endangering the lives of the pilots flying the missions is bad--is helpful. Not to mention all these discussions are supposed to be recorded.

This is a rogue government getting rid of independent oversight as it begins the heist. Elon Musk makes billions from government contracts, but he is allowed to decide how the budget will be spent. (It will be spent on him and his companies.) Trump is hawking everything from the White House. He is touting Elon's cars now. The White House is another gift shop on Pennsylvania Avenue—my gosh, how the money rolls in. The most bloated part of the budget - Defense spending - has not been touched by Musk or Trump because there's gold in those contracts. Conservatives have been coming for your Social Security since David Koch ran for vice president on the Independent ticket in 1980. Republicans swear that it isn't true, like Claude Rains claimed there was no gambling in Casablanca. The formula is easy. Get rid of the cops and regulators. Rob the country. Appoint law enforcement officials who will go along. Voila! The world's largest scam.

Notice that no military brass were participants on the "Houthi call". Military officers would have known that court martial and dishonorable discharge would be the consequences of discussing classified intel on and unclassified line; such arrogant stupidity.

Also Goodness Obama is now on @barackobama.bsky.social . Michelle and her brother also have a Wed podcast that began a few weeks ago but I am not sure if they are speaking out. Hillary also reacted on Twitter on Monday. It's light years ahead of last week.

Obama began with the ACA 15th anniversary on Sunday. Now he has chimed in on Wisconsin:
