Swift boating involves making false or misleading claims about an opponent’s record or character, often using selectively edited or out-of-context information. It is dishonest, personal, and unfair. However, among some Trump supporter’s dishonesty is no longer a major concern. They believe the ends justify the means. A recent example of this behavior is Mike Johnson, a man who says he lives his life by strict adherence to Biblical principles taking the day off from doing the people’s work for which he is paid by our taxes to come to New York to offer support for Trump.

What has happened to decency and honor? Have these concepts become obsolete only to be replaced with Christian values grounded in criminal antisocial behavior. Trump ( a convicted felon) can molest women, lie, and defame with impunity, but still maintain the respect of the various extremists with agendas such as anti-immigrant, xenophobic, nativist, and racists. Christian nationalism, evangelical Christians, anti-feminist, and anti-LGBT rally behind him hoping he will appoint judges, who find that laws invading a women’s right to privacy at a challenging time constitutional.

Thank you, Thomas, for your weigh in. Kerry and the swift-boat comparison--apt. While I want to be optimistic that Democrats can "still" play politically wise offense at pivotal moments, from all accounts, I'm not seeing it. Looks like they've got a continued bad case of the yips. As you say, "Democrats are debating whether to respond" to Trump, the now convicted felon. Debating??? Does not seem to be the best use of time at the critical moment.

This is so right. I am sending this to al the highest level Democrats I know. Biden needs to get his team on this and have the highest level of coordinated attack on Trump and the Republicans as possible. And they need to do it NOW!

It's not just the Biden campaign that should take this bull by the horns. People are cynical -- they may dismiss what his campaign says as propaganda. It may be up to every one of us as we discuss Trump's conviction with family, friends and neighbors. We need to listen to their concerns and come back with well-reasoned rebuttals. People are just beginning to pay attention. They are cynical about politics. I have compiled the beginnings of an F.A.Q. with 18 rebuttals. I hope you'll share it and add any questions and answers based on what you are hearing. Pass it on. https://jimbuie.substack.com/p/18-rebuttals

A top-down communications strategy by Biden and Harris accentuating Trump's felony convictions can easily backfire and play into the suspicion that Biden orchestrated the convictions. Are their talking points on this topic even widely covered or dismissed as propaganda? A better or equally valuable communications strategy is from the bottom up -- viral social media based on dialogue among citizens. https://jimbuie.substack.com/p/18-rebuttals

Thomas, you have a column. Use your own column to attack Trump and his behavior after the trial: his lies, his attacks on the judge and the judicial system. You're doing too much complaining, instead of attacking yourself. Set a good example.

You make some very good points. I agree!

Tom, Democrats and the Biden administration better have a plan on what they are gonna do when the Right Wing Militias take over polling places and vote counting facilities and a armed coup attempt begins. I still can't believe that VP Harris is even in the same state as the President.

Here we go again! I witnessed the same thing inside the Dukakis campaign when those of us on the communication team pleaded to respond to the Willie Horton ad and others insisted the voters were too smart to be soured against Mike Dukakis.
