So will you vote for Biden if he’s on the ticket or for Trump? All I keep hearing is “I love Joe, he’s done a great job.” “he’s a good man but he’s old and I wish someone else were running, but I’ll vote for him if he “ like Bernie in the movie Weekend At Bernie’s” is dead.” Biden beats the alternative. Everyone then goes back to work to convince others of the same v

I believe the Republican Candidate for this office you’re referring to in your article may not be accustomed to complex problem-solving. This plan pushed her cognitive abilities to their limits. North Carolina’s education system could not benefit from a leader who is merely a political hack. The issues at hand are indeed complex and require a higher level of intellectual capacity. Restroom cameras are ridiculous.

The lenient gun laws, lack of basic firearm safety training, and mental health issues have led to tragic incidents in our schools and public areas. A recent series of shootings in Charlotte, North Carolina, which resulted in the death of a woman and injuries to three others, is a stark example. A group of teenagers found amusement in driving around Charlotte at night, shooting at drivers and pedestrians.

Even though they were eventually caught, this does not bring back the innocent motorist or alleviate the pain and suffering of the injured pedestrians. The family of the deceased woman has suffered an irreplaceable loss due to the reckless actions of these disturbed teenagers.

So, what’s the solution? Stricter gun laws, universal background checks, or another strategy to prevent such incidents? All these measures focus on the individual obtaining a weapon but fall short in the Charlotte incident as none of these teenagers were old enough to legally purchase a weapon.

The issue will not be resolved by implementing stricter laws, installing cameras in school restrooms or classrooms, or any other ineffective law that limits or restricts gun ownership. In Canada, private firearm ownership is heavily regulated, resulting in most private citizens being prohibited from owning or possessing firearms. Canada dose not have the shooting problems we have in the US. If these half measures continue, that is exactly where the US is headed.

There must be a more effective solution. In the past, this country had a form of compulsory military service - the draft. In many European countries, all individuals, regardless of gender, are required to spend at least a year or more in some form of military service. They are taught discipline and the proper safety and handling of firearms. Furthermore, individuals with behavioral or mental issues could be identified and evaluated.

This could be a consideration for the United States. Extending high school to five years, training final year dedicated to military training, could be a start. Incidents of random shootings and firearm accidents were minimal when individuals were exposed to military training. This program could be integrated into the standard high school curriculum for both males and females. The only exceptions would be physical or mental disabilities that render a person unfit for military service. These could be addressed on a case-by-case basis. Installing cameras in school restrooms, invading a student’s privacy is not a solution, but an incentive to become more inventive. Although, security measures, such as proper fencing and mental detectors may have a future in the school system. Couple these measures with proper training of folks designated to operate them, this may put a band aid on the problem!

Thomas, I think you’re onto something. With your platform if Morrow doesn’t win this time you’ll be a sho-in in 2028!

Her thinking doesn't go deep enough. For example, now that untraceable guns can be 3-D printed by anyone, perhaps cameras in stuudens pockets, or underwear.

Maybe it's just because I'm a Democrat, but I continue to be amazed at the incredibly insane set of Republican candidates for NC state offices. Perhaps it has some connection to their choice for presidential candidate
